Can the Prequel™ Prenatal Screen test solely for sex of the fetus?
No, the Prequel™ Prenatal Screen cannot test solely for sex of the fetus. This test screens for common trisomies leading to conditions like Down syndrome. Your provider can choose to also include screening for the sex chromosomes, which can predict whether a baby will be male (XY) or female (XX) and also can screen for sex chromosome differences. Sometimes, there may be too many or too few sex chromosomes, resulting in potential health issues. Sex chromosome screening cannot be ordered independently of common trisomies.
